EU approves Export of Hot Water Treated Mangoes from Kenya

The European Union has granted authorization for the export of freshly harvest- ed mangoes from Kenya that have undergone hot water treatment.

The Managing Director of Kenya Plant Inspectorate Health Services, Theophilus Mutui, announced that the country has received an extra endorsement for shipping temperature-treated mangoes to the EU.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he indicated that the EU released a notifica- tion in June 2023, approving the utilization of vapor heat treatment for fresh mangoes originating from Kenya. This new approval is an extension of the existing permission granted in 2021 to apply the hot water treatment method.

Kenya resumed its mango export to the EU in September 2021 after an eight-year voluntary suspension due to instances of fruit fly infestations result- ing in intercepted produce.
