Regulatory Decisions on Acephate Based Pest Control Products

The PCPB Board of Management, in its 166th meeting, made a regulatory decision to withdraw all uses of acephate by December 31, 2024, and stop importation of acephate-based products immediately.

The above decision was based on continued rejection of Kenya’s fresh export produce, such as French beans (beans with pods), due to exceedances of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLS) and the need to safeguard the market.

All companies are therefore required to:

1. Declare their current stocks of acephate-based products immediately and not later than the 40th week of 2023; and

2. Clear all the stocks of acephate-based products in circulation by December 31, 2024.
