Here are the projects we are currently undertaking
1. Business Environment and Export Enhancement Programme (BEEEP)
Partner: TradeMark Africa
August 2023 – August 2028
Budget: $800,000
Objective: The objective of this project is to convene Public Private Dialogues in the horticulture sector. The program will build on interventions already supported by the Government of Kenya and will complement the goal of the Integrated National Export Development and Promotion Strategy (INEDPS) that seeks to grow Kenya’s horticultural exports. The goal is to close the negative balance of trade through export growth, factor productivity and stimulating economic development and job creation, in a sustainable and inclusive manner.
2. From Loss to Value Creation (L2V): Reducing Food Loss through Partnerships in Green Cold Storage Solutions in Kenya” under the DANIDA Green Business Partnership
Partner: DanChurchAid – DCA
July 2023 – July 2028
Budget: KES 4,000,000
Objective: The objective of this project is to increase income for small-holder farmers in Nakuru and Nyandarua counties by reducing food waste and loss through the implementation of cold-chain solutions. This will be done through the introduction of a sustainable cold-chain business model, that promotes responsible business conduct. FPEAK will build the capacity of farmers and traders on market standards and regulations, provide technical and marketing information, act as an information center and ensure active lobbying and advocacy programs to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.
3. Management of Scale Insects in East Africa to Enhance Market Access
Partners: STDF – CABI, KEPHIS, KALRO, NMK, KEFRI
Project Period: April 2023 to April 2026
Objective: The objective of this project is to improve surveillance of scale insect pests which aids compliance to market requirements to the EU and China. This project will be implemented in Murang’a, Kiambu, Makueni, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Trans Nzoia & Kilifi Counties targeting mango, avocado, papaya and pineapple value chains. The program is led by CABI and KEPHIS. The project will look to train small holder farmers and agronomists on identification and management of scale insects, introduce biological control agents for select invasive pests in the production areas and increase number of nurseries selling pest free planting materials.
